How To Have Success With Cold Market Prospecting!

Today Shawn asks, "My warm market is completely gone. How can I step out of my comfort zone and start meeting people to show my business to?"

I can relate to that in a BIG way! I'd go to the mall (because you know, people are at the mall) and I'd walk around for 2 hours and achieve absolutely NOTHING!

I was as bad as it gets contacting protests in the cold market.

But in this episode of The Unemployed Millionaire Show I want to give you some helpful tips and strategies that work great. In fact, it's these tips and strategies that give me the certainty that you can drop my off in any city in the world my company does business in, take away all my contacts, all my money, and all of my resources and I can get it all back quickly JUST by using the knowledge of the tips and strategies that have are proven to work.

Once you get over the fear you realize it's just a numbers game.

There are leads EVERYWHERE.

There's never a shortage of people who want financial freedom
There's never a shortage of people who want to work from home.
There's never a shortage of people who want to be able to raise their kids without having drop them off at daycare in the morning and rush in the door from their job at 7:30 or 8:00 PM to hopefully catch a quick bite to eat before bed time

If I offered you a job for $250K a year, and all you had to do was get 10 phone numbers every day from people who are interested in another way to generate income for 5 days a week, could you do it?

You can work any hours you want, all you have to do is get 10 numbers a day.

Would you? Almost everyone would say yes to that. Because when you believe the money is there, it changes your mentality.

And this is why leaders become leaders, they KNOW it's a numbers game and the money IS there!

So how to you get rid of the awkwardness when you're just getting started?

You JUST DO IT! The only way to get over a fear is to do that which you fear…

So the first thing is, no matter how uncomfortable and weird it feels, you JUST do it (knowing you might suck a little at first because we ALL sucked a little at this at first)

The second thing you need to do is, disassociate yourself from the results. The second you stop "needing" people to sign up, they start signing up. It's a weird phenomenon but ask any successful person in the world they'll all tell you the same thing. Neediness is a weird energy that not many people like to be around. Instead, you MUST learn to have fun, be happy, smile, find the humor in things, look for the good things in other people, etc.

And here's my formula to making this work for you:

Step 1: Give a sincere compliment (Make sure it's sincere and have fun)
Step 2: Ask questions about them and what they do for a living in a natural way
Step 3: Ask if they keep their income options open
Step 4: Tell them you'll call them and have them give you their number so you can call them

So Shawn, the biggest thing here is, you just have to start doing. Don't put ridiculous expectations on yourself. Leaders and rock stars in this industry don't fall off the truck at that level, they did EXACTLY what you're about to do to get there!

  1. Wondering why I never watched any of your videos! I mean if o knew some of this skills I believe I would have made it much further in some personal aspects

  2. Truly Brilliant Matt. Really, really good and much more valuable and essenceful than videos 5-6 times as long. By far! Truly brilliant. Liked and subscribed! Have a great week ahead!

  3. what if you don’t like recruiting for a living and talking to strangers in public? I like networking but i don’t wanna do it when my income depends on it because then i feel nervous talking to someone and then asking them the question “do you know anyone looking to earn extra income, my business in expanding”. Someone even said, “is that why u talked to me? cause you wanna hire me?” I’m never motivated to go out and prospect. to be honest i only care about the money cause i’m in a tough financial situation. i’ve been in the the industry for 5 years now, started at 18 now 23. i feel like i’ve wasted 5 years of my life. Anyone got any advice whose doing about one recruit a week? because i don’t wanna quit just yet.

    1. I guess it’s just a fear of mine. i have something called an inferior complex that whenever im out in public, i feel intimidated by others presence because i think of how successful they are and i feel inadequate being around people who are with their family or couple that looks sharp. I wish i could not give a damn what they think, but i always come off as awkward when talking to strangers. Another big concern was when people ask if they have to talk to strangers in public. When i say yes, it always turns them off. I live in nyc, a lot of busy people here that they dont have time have a 5 min convo with a complete stranger.

  4. What about prospecting online? My NWM business is done solely online. So, when I meet a new person on instagram or facebook, how long do I wait to make that invite? Same day I’m talking to them or wait a week after our original small talk conversation?

    1. Felicia Daniels Fitness first and formost establish rapport. Compliment them ask, them about there life and interests, in short, take the time to get to know them. Next, either lead with the product or service. For example: “Hey John who does you dry cleaning?” or “John, I just start my own business and I was wondering if you would be open to supporting me? ” Great! I would like to send you some information about our products or services. It may or may not be for you but I am confident that you know a lot of people who benefit and help.
      I hope this was helpful.

  5. Great video Mr Matt. my question is lets say im trying to build a relationship in the cold market and the prospect ask me about what i do for a living. what do i tell the person

  6. Hi Matt, cold market prospecting is very hard to duplicate – if I see someone in my downline (who I cold market prospected) struggling because they’ve run out of their warm market too. What should I do? I can’t just tell them to think harder and find someone in their warm market- it feels hypocritical. What would you do in this situation?
I also love your videos, channel and website- thanks for all the great content!

  7. Hi I’m Anniza, a 17 years old senior high school student. I’m new in the networking world so i really struggle in how to find qualified prospects and it really is hard to gain someone’s trust especially when they look down on me because i’m still young and i don’t have any experience in this field to share with.. By the way, I live in the Philippines and most people here are quite close minded and negative thinkers. Can I ask you some advice on what I should do?

  8. Only 10 contacts for a quarter of million per year.. What about the 30 day launch #’s as Eric Worre talks about? Are those different than the coasting #’s? Thx Matt!

    1. It’s kind of same thing. In Network Marketing you have to talk a lot of people in a short period of time then you have 15 – 20 recruits you should work with your people and help their people and their people and so on.. That’s how things works.

  9. How do i start the conversation on fb if the person is unknown/cold to me..How do i start the conv if he is not at all known to me

  10. Should you disclose that you are in a marketing business to your prospects? Some may have a negative perception of network marketing maybe due to their experience or someone else’s experience. How do you disguise it to appear more compelling.
